I've been to Germany several times, and the DDR only a couple times. Last time I was there (December 2009) I saw my first Trabant. I did not know anything about the car but I was inquisitive. Talking to my family that lives over there, I found out all about the car and the significance of it. I loved the way it looked, I've always had a thing for odd little European cars, and wanted to bring one home. After a few light half serious discussions, I forgot about it and throughout the year have looked online to find one for sale with no luck.

Anyway about 9 months ago, I found out a friend of mines father, here in Texas had a Trabi, and I have been on my friend ever since to get it from his father. Well about 2 months ago, I was approached by my friend to restore his father's 1977 Mercedes 300D Pick-Up truck (1 of 5 in the world), and in return he would give me the Trabi as payment.  Well the Mercedes is about finished, and off at the painters, and I was able to pick up the Trabi to start working on it.

The car itself is from Hungary, and was brought to the US in December 2004.
